Meet Dave – ACSC’s biggest fan from 12,000 miles away!

Meet Dave – ACSC’s biggest fan from 12,000 miles away!

We are the people.

¬†Meet Dave – ACSC’s biggest fan even though he is 12,000 miles away!¬†

Dave lives in Bradford, West Yorkshire in the UK and even though he is 12,000 miles away he is still very much an active part of our Altona City Soccer Club Community.

You will often find Dave commenting on our socials and sharing images on his socials attending his much loved Bradford City FC matches decked out in an ACSC kit.  Dave has even been captured in his ACSC kit at the Bradford games by local media. Thank you Dave for taking ACSC global!

Dave came over to Australia on a one-year visa in 1990 and stayed with family in Newport. On a night exploring the surrounding suburbs, Dave discovered the lights on at HC Kim Reserve and saw the boys training. ¬†“I stopped in and asked if I could join the lads for a knockabout.” ¬†Dave went on to play in our Reserves team in 1990/1991 as a Midfield Attacker. ¬†Thirty years later Dave’s¬†family ties with ACSC are still in place with our Senior Women’s player Rebecca Kovacs being the daughter of Daves’s cousin.¬†

Of course, the person that Dave spoke to that first night was our much loved and missed Tony Cassar. ¬†“After speaking to Tony I decided this could be a good club and it turned out to be a great club. Everyone at Altona City Soccer Club made me feel so welcome. ¬†I was coming out of a bad time with the passing of my father and associating with the wrong crowd in England. The break came at the perfect time for me and I owe ACSC and Tony Cassar so much thanks for helping me through.”

“I visited a few years ago and watched a pre-season game and caught up with Tony and a few of the players which brought back great memories.¬†I’m proud to have been part of the ACSC family and will continue to wear the colours with pride at games here in Bradford when COVID restrictions are lifted.”

Thank you for being part of our community Dave, it is a privilege to have you.
